What tests do I have to pass?
Prior to your first solo flight there is a multiple choice (20 questions)
test on the 'road rules' of the sky.....just like an RTA test.
At any stage and in any order you may sit the other exams. They are all
multiple choice and there is one for each of the four subjects listed above.
Just knock them over one at a time to suit yourself. Once these are
out of the way and you have worked your way through the in flight training
syllabus it will be time for your final flight test. There is nothing
horrific about this. You will just be required to demonstrate the
flying exercises practised during training and to make in-flight decisions
as 'Pilot In Command'. The pass standard is 'competent', not
'perfect'.
What would training from 'scratch' to Pilot Certificate standard set me back?
Typically, it might look like this:

Later, you will want a 'cross country' endorsement because your Pilot Certificate carries a restriction that you can only fly within a 25 nautical mile radius from where you took off. This involves further study, the main subjects being Flight Planning, Meteorology and Navigation.

Once you have a ticket you are welcome to hire our Jabiru at $100 per flying hour, fuel included.
Your qualification as an RAA pilot is recognised throughout Australia, so if you wish to hire an aircraft, just rock up to any local flying school and see what they can offer. Understandably, many flyers aim to own their own machine some day.
What is RAAus?
RAAus is a
self-administration body, directed by a board elected from the membership,
and employing a small team of managers and staff. It evolved from the earlier years of ultralighting,
when the government said, “get something organised, you jokers, and we’ll
let you run your own show." The law says that your membership must be
current if you wish to
use your pilot certificate. When you join for the first time, the nice people in the office will send you a Student Pilot Certificate as well as your own copies of the RAAus Operations and Technical Manuals. But wait. There’s more! They’ll make sure you are sent a copy of our own RAAus Magazine every month. Take some time to familiarise yourself with the RAAus web site, www.raa.asn.au
Where is your Training Facility?
We operate from Hangar 303, Forest Hill Aerodrome, 'on demand'. This means
that our hangar is often unattended at times when we aren't flying or servicing the aircraft.
When is training available?
Seven days a week, during daylight hours, to suit you. Of course, there are a few possible show stoppers such as aircraft or instructor illness or prior booking, and of course, the weather.
